Welcome to the Appalachian Mountain Club Delaware Valley Chapter (AMC-DV)!
AMC-DV is one of the Philadelphia region’s largest, oldest, and most active outdoor clubs, with 800+ outdoor-related activities each year (most are free!). Join us on one of our many events and trips in and around the Greater Philadelphia area, the Lehigh Valley, New Jersey, Delaware, and beyond. Activities and trips include hiking, paddling, backpacking, biking, trail maintenance, conservation, outdoor education, and more. All activities are led by trained and experienced leaders! Our chapter is part of the national Appalachian Mountain Club, which offers a wide range of trips on the East Coast and beyond.

What make our MeetUp activities different?
There are a lot of great MeetUp groups out there to choose from. A key thing that sets AMC-DV apart from some of them is that our activity leaders undergo training and are experienced outdoors people who volunteer their time and expertise. Their goal: to share fun, friendly and safe outdoors experiences. While safety is their primary concern, participants must also accept risk and responsibility for their own safety.

Fall Nature Preserve Hike Series - #2 Crow’s Nest Preserve

Difficulty: 4 - ModerateDescription: Fall is here! Please join us to witness the brilliant fall colors as we hike an approximately 5 to 6 mile loop on portions of the Red, Gray, Yellow, and Horse-Shoe Trail in Crow’s Nest Preserve, Chester County.
Our route includes an interesting mix of meadows, cornfields, woodlands, boardwalks and stream crossings! There are some sections in the woods area that are rocky and steep; sturdy footwear and hiking poles recommended due to leaves covering the trail. There is also a short section where the trail is less traveled! The difficulty level will be moderate, with speeds around 2.5 mph; total elevation gain will be around 500 - 600 feet.Note: It is hunting season and the Horse-Shoe Trail section is on state game lands. Participants should wear at least 250 square inches of fluorescent (blaze or hunter) orange visible 360 degrees on their head, chest, and back.
Group size will be limited. No dogs. If the hike is cancelled, such as due to weather, we will announce this at least two hours in advance.
Please note: In order to comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws, all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. This policy applies for all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter as well as any other Chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania.
AMC is a non-profit organization and the hike leaders are volunteers. All participants will need to sign the AMC liability release agreement (click here to review it in advance). Alternatively, you can register on the AMC website and sign the agreement in advance there. The AMC website also shows many other AMC events that might interest you.
AMC is an outdoor recreation and conservation organization that, among other things, helps maintain the hiking trails we use in Valley Forge and many other parks. Non-members are welcome on this hike, but membership is inexpensive and supports the great work AMC does (click here to learn more).

Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Worlds End State Park is a 780-acre public recreation area nestled in a narrow, S-shaped valley along the Loyalsock Creek in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. It’s known for its breathtaking views of the Endless Mountains and the Loyalsock Creek. Be ready for some beautiful views!
We will all be at one group campsite. A $12 contribution to the cost of the camp site is included in the registration.
We’ll arrive Friday afternoon to set up camp, do a gear check, and review our weekend activities.
We’ll have a variety of activity options, including hikes, frisbee/games, knowledge/skill sharing. We’ll be joined by Larry Priori, who is one of AMCDV’s most seasoned campers, as well as the chapter’s wilderness first aid instructor.A taste of possible hikes:
- 3.6 mile loop, 731 ft elevation gain
- 8.55 miles, 1,600 ft elevation gain
- 7.1 miles, 1,000 ft elevation gain.
After you are registered, please join the WhatsApp Trip Planning Group for trip planning, updates, and coordination.
Extreme weather will cancel. Leader will notify you by noon if the trip plans change.All participants will need to agree to and sign a paper AMC legal waiver sheet just prior to the hike if you did not register online in the AMC Outdoor Connector.

Miller Mountain Exploratory Hike
Miller Mountain Parking, 109 Jurista Hill L, Tunkhannock, PA, USWe're going to try a hike that is new to most of us in the area.
Miller Mountain is one of PA's newest hiking areas. There are no formal trails, but we will follow existing paths, ATV trails, and whatever else we find. We will move quickly, aiming for an average pace of over 3 mph. This means we will be moving at 3+mph on flats and slightly slower on the hills. That said, while I have a rough idea of where we will go, if we find a path that looks inviting, we may try that. Due to speed and conditions this is not a beginner hike and is geared towards those of you who regularly hike or run hills. and can handle the mileage. There will be minimal stops apart from a short lunch break. The route is approximately 10 miles and while not overly technical, it's Pennsylvania so it's rarely smooth ground.

There are not bathrooms or any facilities here.

Note: This is a vigorous hike due to the distance and speed, but not overly technical. You should be able to hike 10+ miles without any trouble or need to regularly stop.

Rain will not cancel the hike, but I will if there are thunderstorms.
What to bring:- water, electrolytes - at least 2 liters
- Food/snacks
- layers, depending on the weather
- Proper footwear
- headlamp (note, you should not need it)
- phone with map of the area or paper map (there is cell coverage on most of the hike, but not all)
- trekking poles, if you’d like
- a smile and great attitude

Join AMC at the Bridgeton Nature Preserve on the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail! We will be working on removing brush and vegetation from the 2-mile loop trail.
We will meet at Bridgeton Nature Preserve Parking Lot.Participants should plan to bring at least one liter of water, and a snack. They should wear durable hiking boots or sneakers, and long sleeves/pants to protect themselves from thorns, poison ivy, and ticks. During the trail workday, participants will use handheld tools such as loppers, folding saws, and pruners. Proper PPE is required including hard hats, work gloves, and safety glasses, which will all be provided. This workday is beginner friendly! No prior trail maintaining experience needed.
Post-event, we can all head across the street to the Gulch Tavern for some tasty eats and beverages.

What is the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail?
The Highlands Trail in Pennsylvania is a connected trail network located in the 1.9 million-acre, 13 county Pennsylvania Highlands region. The 300-mile route spans across southeast Pennsylvania, from the Pennsylvania-Maryland border in Waynesboro to the Delaware River in Easton. The trail co-aligns with several other trails in the region, including rugged, natural surface trails, as well as paved multi-use pathways. Hikers may find themselves walking through dense forests with beautiful vistas, or through urban areas where shops and restaurants are just steps away.
