Welcome to the AMC - Delaware Valley Chapter Meetup site. The Delaware Valley Chapter of AMC has over 4,500 members in Pennsylvania, middle, north western & southern NJ, and Northern Delaware. The Chapter is a part of the larger AMC community of over 90,000 members throughout the Northeast. AMC is headquartered in Boston, MA, organized in 12 Chapters from Maine to Washington DC devoted to outdoor recreation, education and conservation. The Chapter offers day hiking, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, bicycling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, winter mountaineering, trail maintenance, conservation cleanups, educational workshops, meetings and programs throughout the year. Events are led by volunteers. If you're new to hiking or outdoor activities, be sure to read our on-line "getting started" pamphlet, A Guide to Day Hiking With the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club. It will answer many of your questions. We will also be adding a FAQ link in the near future to address other commonly asked questions, such as, may I bring my dog, do you charge a fee to participate in an activity or will I be pressured to join the AMC?

Typically we schedule a dozen or more activities each week. Only a sampling of Chapter activities appear on Meetup. We urge you to visit our Chapter website and click on the calendar link to view all approved Chapter activities. The calendar is constantly being updated so check often. We focus on hiking here because it is through that activity that most people become acquainted with us but by no means is hiking our only activity.

Our activities run the gamut that range from easy hikes to very challenging activities that involve very rough terrain along with steep climbs ascents and descents. All activities involve a degree of risk. While our leaders are very conscious of the risks, are trained in managing them and consider safety their number one concern, participants must recognize and accept that risk and are responsible for their own safety. At the start of each activity participants must sign a liability release. We ask that you take a moment now to click on the link and read the document. If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch with us. Contact information appears on our Chapter website.

There are a couple of additional item regarding liability. Only people over 18 can sign the liability release form. A parent or legal guardian must sign for anyone under 18. In addition, any Meetup member can submit comments and coordinate their participation in activities. The AMC, its officers and staff or the Delaware Chapter volunteers don't control those comments or activity coordination messages. While the Chapter makes every effort to monitor Meetup and remove anything offensive, it cannot take responsibility for posted comments or for carpooling that might be coordinated through the site.

While we are a large organization and schedule many activities, we don't have a whole lot of rules. Our goal is to remain safe, have fun and not disturb our environment. Please join us and let's have some fun! See you on the trails.
