Ethics and Social Impact of AI Monthly Discussion
Details
• What we'll do
The intention is to bring AI engineers and enthusiasts together with social justice advocates to start a conversation about some of the ethical considerations and social impacts of artificial intelligence. What does ethics mean in the context of AI?
Consider the possibilities of AI to be ethical, to pull away from implicit bias that holds down individuals and groups of people... But unfortunately, there have been many cases where AI has set out to solve a problem, and ended up making it worse, often perpetuating the unethical culture that we live in. What can we do about this?
By understanding the problems from multiple angles, we can work together with each other and with AI to build a better, more equitable world. We will be discussing some examples from the book 'Weapons of Math Destruction' by Cathy O'Neil. Please take a look at the book or watch some of her videos on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdCJYsKlX_Y
Here are a few other articles you might like to read to prepare for the Meetup. Other research that interests you in these areas is highly encouraged. I look forward to sharing ideas with you!
