What we're about

Making the web a better place for everyone.

This is a group for anyone interested in web accessibility (A11Y). Whether you're a UX designer, developer, project manager, or are simply curious about the value and impact web accessibility can have on your products and our community, we hope you'll join us.

A11Y Atlanta meets monthly to learn from seasoned professionals, network with local practitioners and share knowledge about this growing discipline. We'll focus our efforts on increasing education, sharing best practices, and generating awareness about the importance of accessibility and universal design.

Join us. Let's build a better web.

Help Audit Nonprofit Websites for Accessibility

Online event

Hello, A11Y Atlanta, it's that time again! I hope you'll join us this summer as we provide accessibility auditing and coaching at the 48in48 Social Justice Event.

This special 48in48 event is designed specifically to provide brand new websites for deserving nonprofits across the globe. Hundreds of developers, designers, and digital marketers will come together this weekend and spend 48 hours building 48 websites for 48 deserving nonprofits. (that's an impressive goal – and we need you to help make it a reality)

Here's the role we'll play: During the hours of 10:AM PM and 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 25th, and again from 9:00 AM till 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 26th, we'll provide accessibility reviews and remediation recommendations to the project/design teams as they complete their website builds. There will be a special Slack channel set up for us (#A11Y) through which we'll schedule review sessions, and host office hours to provide accessibility coaching.

In order to keep things simple, we will focus our reviews on a very limited number of WCAG 2.1 items. This will keep things understandable and actionable for project teams that may have limited (or zero) exposure to accessibility compliance prior to the event. It's a fantastic way to introduce people to the topic and to positively affect websites designed to support communities in need.

Please join us for this fun and impactful weekend. We need at least 20 volunteers to pull this off.

To sign up, please DM me the following info by EOD June. 3rd.
(1) Your contact information (name, email, phone)
(2) Your preferred availabilities during the 10-6 window on Saturday and/or the 9-3 window on Sunday.

Important Notes:
No one is expected to be on call for the entire time, any time you can volunteer is appreciated. For example, I'll be on call to perform audits from 9-11 AM and again from 2-4 PM on Saturday. You may choose a single hour or a longer block. it's totally your call.

We will have a pregame/planning meeting on June 22nd. (tentatively scheduled for 5:30 PM) to discuss event details, provide basic training, and answer any remaining questions. I'll follow up with a calendar invitation to the folks who have RSVP'd.

Cheers,
Todd

You do not need to be an accessibility expert to participate. We'll train you. This is a great opportunity to learn as well as serve.
