What we're about

This is a local networking group for Death Doulas/End of Life Doulas and those interested in pursuing or learning about the work in and around the Austin, TX area. We aim to create a supportive community of death positive people who can learn from and grow alongside one another. We look forward to gathering for informal in-person conversations with like-minded people, sharing resources and information, and raising public awareness of Death Doula/End of Life Doula work in Texas.

For a list of resources shared in our meetups so far, please visit our google sheet HERE (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1U4UdLHOwWkCzzIC0zvVXcqsyICbblpo4chmBcgj5ZCo/edit?usp=sharing) (and send suggestions for additions to Annie)

Death Doula Virtual Afternoon Tea

Online event

Bring your own tea/coffee/comfort treat of choice to this virtual conversation. It's an important time to have conversations about death as a part of life, and to support one another as we do.

If you have a topic of discussion, please feel free to suggest it in the comments below or by messaging the organizer.

Passwords to access this meeting will be sent via Meetup Messenger no later than 1 pm on February 7. Please RSVP by noon on that day.

Note: This event is intended as a space for those who work/volunteer with the dying and their loved ones. Those who are curious about this work are welcome to attend, but if you would like to have bigger conversations about life, death, and dying, I recommend seeking a Death Cafe: https://deathcafe.com/

Skip to the End Book Club: Final Gifts

Online event

This book club is all about taking some time to connect about the books that can help us live more fully and be better companions to others in their journeys.

This month we will be reading Final Gifts: Understanding the Special Awareness, Needs, and Communications of the Dying by Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley.
Description:
Filled with practical advice on responding to the requests of the dying and helping them prepare emotionally and spiritually for death, Final Gifts shows how we can help the dying person live fully to the very end.

As with all of our events, you do not need to be a Death Doula or to finish reading every book we select to participate. All you need is an open mind and a caring heart. Please reach out to the organizer (Annie) if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions!

P.S. Comment below if you want to go ahead and suggest books! Additional book suggestions can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1U4UdLHOwWkCzzIC0zvVXcqsyICbblpo4chmBcgj5ZCo/edit?usp=sharing
