What we’re about
This is a local networking group for Death Doulas/End of Life Doulas and those interested in pursuing or learning about the work in and around the Austin, TX area. We aim to create a supportive community of death positive people who can learn from and grow alongside one another. We look forward to gathering for informal in-person conversations with like-minded people, sharing resources and information, and raising public awareness of Death Doula/End of Life Doula work in Texas.

See all- Skip to the End Book Club: Briefly Perfectly Human by Alua ArthurLink visible for attendees
This book club is all about taking some time to connect about the books that can help us live more fully and be better companions to others in their journeys. We are trying a bi-monthly schedule to start and we will see how things go from here!
This month we will be reading Briefly Perfectly Human by Alua Arthur, Death Doula
Description from the publisher's website:
For her clients and everyone who has been inspired by her humanity, Alua Arthur is a friend at the end of the world. As our country’s leading death doula, she’s spreading a transformative message: thinking about your death—whether imminent or not—will breathe wild, new potential into your life.
Briefly Perfectly Human is a life-changing, soul-gathering debut, by a writer whose empathy, tenderness, and wisdom shimmers on the page. Alua Arthur combines intimate storytelling with a passionate appeal for loving, courageous end-of-life care—what she calls “death embrace.” Hers is a powerful testament to getting in touch with something deeper in our lives, by embracing the fact of our own mortality. “Hold that truth in your mind,” Alua says, “and wondrous things will begin to grow around it.”
You can also check out Alua's TED talk.
As with all of our events, you do not need to be a Death Doula or to finish reading every book we select to participate. All you need is an open mind and a caring heart.

Bring your own tea/coffee/comfort treat of choice to this virtual conversation. It's an important time to have conversations about death as a part of life, and to support one another as we do. We will see where the conversational winds take us. Bring any questions or ideas you would like to share!
Looking for resources? Start here with our ever-growing spreadsheet for suggestions of educational programs, books, films, podcasts, websites, and more! Suggest additions as you have things to share.
Note: This event is intended as a space for those who work/volunteer with the dying and their loved ones. Those who are curious about this work are welcome to attend, but if you would like to have bigger conversations about life, death, and dying, I recommend seeking a Death Cafe: https://deathcafe.com/
