Learn how companies like Microsoft, Nylas, Mixmax and Wagon are shipping polished, cross-platform desktop apps with Electron (formerly Atom Shell), and hang out over great food and beer.

We’ll have four 20-minute tech talks, followed by open lightning talks.

Porting Web Apps to Electron Using Meteor (Jeffrey Wear - Engineer at Mixmax)

Electron expects you to write an app specifically for the desktop—but if you have an existing web app, why not give that native capabilities instead? In this talk, we'll look at best practices and a set of new NPM packages for translating web apps to Electron, using Mixmax's Meteor application as a case study.

Chromium: Fun on the bleeding edge (Ben Gotow - Engineer at Nylas)

Electron releases track the latest version of Chromium, which means you can use the latest and greatest features in your Electron apps. In this 20-minute talk, we'll look at a few of Chromium's new tricks you can use for fun and performance!

Ember-Electron: Building Electron Apps in Ember (Felix Rieseberg - Engineer at Microsoft)

Ember is a great framework for sophisticated web app development, making it an ideal candidate for the development of Electron apps. See Ember, its powerful CLI, and how Ember-Electron enables a great build/test/deploy workflow.

Deploying Electron apps— the good, the bad and the ugly

(Matt DeLand - Co-Founder at Wagon)

We'll walk through how Wagon deploys its Electron app. This talk will cover both standard and custom Electron usage for background updating, uninterrupted usage, helper processes, cross-platform builds, OS notifications, and (the occasional) hotfix.
