How many of us have traveled to other countries? As a tourist? For work? What about for aid work?

This month we'll learn from people who've been overseas about what it's like to see the world from within anther culture and community and not as an outsider looking in. We'll get live updates from the Philippines as they attempt to recover from a disaster that has wiped out their major industry for the next decade. And we'll learn about the growth of hacker/maker communities as part of a movement of empowerment around the world. As we consider what others are doing for themselves we can contemplate the need to do the same here, and discuss how we experience international development through the lens of local and global communities.

As designers and engineers we have tremendous talents and assets to make a difference in the lives of others. Each month we will get together to meet, speak and dine with one another. Whether you are leading international development projects or looking to get involved we will give you the opportunity to speak up and be heard amongst like-minded individuals.

Come by the TechShop on Feb 6th at 7pm, to discover the hidden world of altruists around you. Arrive 30 mins early to receive a tour of the space. You can also sign up for Facebook event
and RSVP via eventbrite.

We will be holding an unconference style event. In the first 30mins we will have several speakers give short 5mins talks about their experience designing for international development.

After the talks those who want to stand up and describe the projects that they are working on can do so, and then the group will open up to casual discussion.
Food will be provided and everyone is encouraged to mingle. White boards are available for brainstorming and collaborating on active projects.

Special thanks to the TechShop for letting us host this event. Techshop is a community-based workshop and prototyping studio on a mission to democratize access to the tools of innovation.
