We meet to discuss and collaborate on strategies, best practices, and experiences around the Microsoft Power Platform and Business Intelligence stack, including:
• Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate (formerly called Flow)
• SQL Server BI (SQL Server Analysis Services and Reporting Services)
You'll learn from the experts, meet your peers, and enjoy pizza and drinks at each meeting. Meetings are free and are held on the third Tuesday of each month. We're a 100% volunteer-run user group. Our meeting location alternates between San Francisco and Sunnyvale.
Budgeting is one of the most challenging scenarios in the Power BI arena. For example, you might need to summarize sales in previous years and to allocate the budget forecasts.
This session has just a couple of slides, and a long demo in which we start with simple forecasts and we end up building a nice solution to allocate forecasts based on previous year sales. In the meantime, we discuss and learn about different kind of relationship in Power BI. Of course… there will be a lot of DAX fun!
You will learn how to:
* Understand and master relationships at different granularity
* Build advanced calculated tables
* Use DAX to link tables the right way
* Detect when numbers might be wrong and need to be cleared
Alberto Ferrari of SQLBI has published several books about Analysis Services, Power BI, and Power Pivot. He is a Microsoft MVP and he earned the SSAS Maestro title, the highest level of certification on Microsoft Analysis Services technology.
Today, Alberto focuses on the delivery of DAX and data modeling workshops for Power BI and Analysis Services around the world. He consults on large and complex data warehouses to provide assessments and validation of project analysis or to perform specific problem-solving activities.
Alberto is a well-known speaker at many international conferences, like PASS Summit, Sqlbits, and Microsoft Ignite. Outside of SQLBI, most of Alberto's personal time is spent practicing video games, in the vain hope of eventually beating his son.
Power BI expert Brian Grant will join us from Portland to talk about Certified Data Sets - the future of Enterprise Power BI. Certified Data Sets offer a single source of truth that can easily be used by report authors across workspaces and even outside of Power BI. However, getting them to flourish can be tricky.
Approaches that were perfectly fine in a regular data set can become a ticking time bomb, and knowing the right process will save you time down the road. Brian will explain what Certified Datasets are, and what changes need to be made to a regular dataset to get it ready for certified enterprise use.
You will learn:
* How to best enable a single source of truth in Power BI
* What “Certified Dataset” means and how it works
* How to certify a data set (what to do and not to do)
