Talk 1: Introducing the OWASP Game Security Framework - Daniel Miessler

Abstract:

For far too long, game hacking has been ignored as a serious security topic because games have been considered a hobby and nothing else. But now gaming is a multi-million-dollar industry, and companies are realizing that a game with vulnerabilities in it can lead directly to player abandonment.

The Game Security Framework serves as central location for collecting and understanding the various types of issues that can cause damage to game experiences, and, by extension, game companies. You’ll learn how the project is structured, the type of data we are gathering and organizing, and hear about real-world examples that affected the success of various games.

Bio:

Daniel Miessler is the Director of Advisory Services at IOActive and has 17 years of experience in information security. His background is in technical security testing and enterprise defense, including network, web, application, mobile, IoT testing, and adversary-based risk management.

He is the leader of the OWASP IoT Security project and speaks regularly at conferences, on panels, and to the media on the topics of information security and technology trends. He also produces a blog, podcast, and newsletter with similar themes.

Talk 2: Motherhood, Mental Health, and a Career in CyberSecurity - Caroline Wong

Abstract:

A career in cybersecurity is part of a larger phenomenon called life. Cybersecurity can be so all-encompassing that it can be easy to forget to take care of one's body and one's spirit. Caroline will discuss her 10+ year career as a cybersecurity professional. However, the focus will be on the psychological aspects of her mind and the effects of those various conditions on her work and her life.

Bio:

Caroline Wong is the Vice President of Security Strategy at Cobalt. Cobalt delivers crowdsourced pen tests and private bug bounties to modern organizations.

Caroline’s close and practical information security knowledge stems from broad experience as a Cigital consultant, a Symantec product manager, and day-to-day leadership roles at eBay and Zynga. She is a well-known thought leader on the topic of security metrics and has been featured at industry conferences including RSA (USA and Europe), IT Web Summit (South Africa), OWASP AppSec, Metricon, the Executive Women’s Forum, ISC2, and the Information Security Forum.

Caroline received a 2010 Women of Influence Award in the One to Watch category and authored the popular textbook Security Metrics: A Beginner’s Guide, published by McGraw-Hill in 2011. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences.
