We will provide a few options for projects and participants can bring their own ideas. The following tweet-based datasets and starter scripts in R and Python will be provided to get a few projects going:

• Trump's Tweets with phone (source/author) data: Demo of binary classification of tweets as Trump (Android) vs Staff (iPhone) based on David Robinson's popular Trump tweet analysis (http://varianceexplained.org/r/trump-tweets/) and data collected from the Twitter API

• Trump vs Hillary tweets (https://www.kaggle.com/benhamner/clinton-trump-tweets) from Kaggle.com: useful for binary classification based on text and/or metadata

• There are a number of other election related datasets that are publicly available. There is now a GitHub repository that contains all the datasets (https://github.com/WiMLDS/election-data-hackathon) for easy access. Feel free to bring your own and/or submit a PR to the repo with an additional dataset.

We can set up a Slack or Gitter channel for the event so those who can't make it in person can participate remotely. We will also plan to livestream the presentations at the end.

Agenda:

6:00 - 6:45 Food and drinks

6:45 - 7:00 Short presentation about text analysis

7:00 - 8:45 Break into groups and hack election data

8:45 - 9:15 Present some of the results

9:15 - 9:30 Wrap up

🍕 Food and drinks will be provided by our hosts, Stitch Fix.
