Sent on: Monday, January 28, 2019, 10:33 AM

Hi Everyone,

Happy #MachineLearningMonday! Read on for some of this week's highlights.

WiMLDS x Criteo THIS WEEK | 1/31/19 | Palo Alto

Join us in Palo Alto for our first night of tech talks in 2019! At WiMLDS x Criteo: ML in Computational Advertising, our speakers share the unique challenges of machine learning in computational advertising.

  • First, you'll learn from Suju about delivering real-time prediction at scale -- of hundreds of billions of requests per day!

  • Next, Fengjiao will show you some techniques for consolidating messy, real-world product catalogs with machine learning.

  • Lastly, Diane will showcase how Criteo's recommender system delivers recommendations on an extensive, ten billion item, product catalog in about 10ms.

It’s been a while since our last big meetup on the Peninsula, so we hope that you can join us!

Global WiDS conference

Save the date, livestream will be on Monday, March 4. https://www.widsconference.org/

PyCon 2019 (May 1-9), Cleveland, Ohio

The PyCon 2019 conference, which will take place in Cleveland, is the largest annual gathering for the community using and developing the open-source Python programming language. It is produced and underwritten by the Python Software Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing and promoting Python. Through PyCon, the PSF advances its mission of growing the international community of Python programmers.

Because PyCon is backed by the non-profit PSF, we keep registration costs much lower than comparable technology conferences so that PyCon remains accessible to the widest group possible. The PSF also pays for the ongoing development of the software that runs PyCon and makes it available under a liberal open source license.

Registration is now open: https://us.pycon.org/2019/registration/

Free tickets to H2O World | 2/4/19-2/5/19 | San Francisco

Erin has arranged for all WiMLDS members to attend H2O World (Feb 4-5, SF) for free using the code “WIMLDS”. The conference features industry speakers, a Kaggle Grandmaster panel, a talk by Erin on H2O AutoML :-), a panel on Women and Inclusion in Tech, and a happy hour featuring a female data scientist DJ from Twitter! Feel free to pass this code onto friends as well. I hope to see you there!

Code and Coffee

The next Code and Coffee meetups will be Code and Coffee East Bay and Code and Coffee SF on February 9th. Reminder: Code and Coffee has SF, East Bay, and Peninsula events.
