What we're about

Our weekly meetings are on a drop in basis and we have a really nice group of people attending regularly. We hope you can join us soon. Please check out our message board (https://www.meetup.com/Beacon-Meditation-Group/messages/boards) to see our meditation topics in previous weeks.

A trademark of the meditations we emphasize is the ease in which they can be used both “on the cushion” and in our daily lives. Each meeting will include practical, guided meditation, and a talk on how to reduce stress and other problems encountered in daily life and how to increase mental and physical well-being. There will also be plenty of time to discuss the ideas presented.

Although the meditations and talks are based on Kadampa Buddhist philosophy, you don't need to be a Buddhist to enjoy this group. Kadampa Buddhism stresses a spiritual path of individual transformation and to look within ourselves for the inner peace and happiness we seek. Everyone is welcome!

These group meetings are based out of Kadampa Meditation Center New York, located in Glen Spey, NY. For more information visit http://www.kadampanewyork.org

We hope to meet you soon!

Meditation Class: Don't Get Angry

Howland Cultural Center

Third class in the series: Habits of Happy People

OK, now don't get angry....but your anger is destroying your happiness.

We might think that because we are not yelling and screaming all of the time, that we don't have anger. The truth is that anger is a large umbrella that houses many states of mind such as frustration, resentment, irritation, anxiety, and even depression! Anger is simply a state of mind that rejects or has an aversion towards what is happening and thus makes us unpeaceful.

In this class, we are going to tell ourselves to stop this bad habit. We do this by understanding how anger develops in our mind and what situations provoke our anger. We will learn how to approach these difficulties with the tranquil mind of patient acceptance. This is one of the most powerful habits that a happy person has in their arsenal.

Price: $10 per person (cash and card accepted at the door)

Meditation Class: Cultivate Loving-Kindness

Howland Cultural Center

Last class in the series: Habits of Happy People

You cannot deny that people that are generally happy are so very loving by nature. This isn't a coincidence. One of the main causes of our own happiness is wishing others to be happy. Actively cherishing and thinking about the happiness of others will always be good results.

In this class, we will look at how to practice loving-kindness in our daily activities and how to bring this into our meditation practice.

Price: $10 per person (cash and card accepted at the door)
