What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
This is our second monthly Monday evening game. We meet the SECOND and FOURTH Monday evening of every month. This meetup is for those who already know how to play American Style Mah Jongg per NMJL Rules. Whether you're fairly new to the game or a Mah Jongg Mavin (would a male player be a Mah Jongg Marvin???) come join us! If you don't have any idea what MJ is about, or know very little, you are welcome to come observe. *(See note below) This is a great opportunity to meet and play with other area mah jongg players! To play you will need the 2019 National Mah Jongg League Card which you may order directly from the NMJL. https://www.nationalmahjonggleague.org/store.aspx# Please make sure you have the 2019 card prior to game day. Boardwalk has 4 tables designated for this meetup so 16 players can play. If you have a MJ game you can bring that has the 152 tiles, 4 racks, 4 pushers and a pair of dice, please let me know. I will be there about 5:30 to start setting up. Play starts promptly at 6:00pm (or earlier if everyone arrives prior to this time). Please try to be on time. Please note there will be all levels of players you will be playing with. Remember, we were all beginners at one time. We will try to rotate tables/players so you will have the opportunity to play with different people during the evening. PLAYERS, please do not put any drinks/food on the tables while playing and no cell phones please. I can provide info if anyone is interested in lessons with a name of a local teacher, just message me. For those who would like to know a little more about the game you can read about it at the link below: https://www.ateacherfirst.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Mah-Jongg-Instructions-2018-1.pdf Please keep your RSVP's current. If you are bringing a guest to play, please provide their name for the roster. ***Please note: If you are interested in just observing the game, you do not need to sign up as a player, but please contact me directly to let me know you are interested in watching so we can have adequate number of chairs for those who want to observe. Space is limited for observers. There are those joining us that are not on meetup. As the spots fill up I will adjust the spaces accordingly.
This WEEKLY meetup is for those who already know to play American Style Mah Jongg, know how to play per National Mah Jongg League Rules (no table rules, strictly NMJL rules) and are able to play independently. Join us for our monthly Game Night! Starting in July we will be meeting at the Good Game Company’s HQ. We'll be there from 6–9 p.m. playing all kinds of great board games. We'll bring a giant stack from our collection (mostly hot new ones, a couple of classics, and usually a few prototypes or unreleased games). The Tantrum House crew will be teaching and playing all night and you're more than welcome to bring games from your personal collection too! You can learn more about us at www.TantrumHouse.com. And be sure to check out the details on our Board Game Convention coming to Spartanburg in January at www.TantrumCon.com.
