We are a group established on December 26th 2013. We started out with a single Craigslist add and the open play space provided by Legends at Vallco Mall in Cupertino. We grew to be a comfortable group of 6 regulars that met consistently at 6pm on Saturdays.
In 2016 Legends moved from Vallco Mall which was/is closing, to its new location at Santa Clara Town Center, 2054 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95050.
In May of 2016, this page was created to try and grow the group. Board to Death, (named by our very first member Fred) was reborn as a Meetup group that has grown from 6 regulars to over 100 members in 5 months. Our slogan is "Gaming Until We Drop" (I'm pretty pun-tastic).
Our typical turn out is approximately 8 people each week. Some weeks we have had as many as 15 people.
Our normal routine is as follows:
We meet up at 6pm and either break into a few groups, play a large game as one group or do both. Legends closes at midnight on Saturdays which for us means we either stay until closing or leave after 2-3 games. Some of us continue the fun by going to one of our regular after-spots (Seniore's Pizza 940 Monroe St, Santa Clara, CA 95050. or The Duke of Edinburgh located at Cupertino Village, 10801 N Wolfe Rd, Cupertino, CA 95014 http://www.theduke.com/ ) We then enjoy lighter games such as Codenames, Spyfall and other similar games that don't need a ton of space that can still accommodate a good number of players. We typically end the night by 2am at the absolute latest with members free to come and go as they please.
We strongly encourage our members to RSVP to meetups so we have an idea of what the turn out will be like. In addition to RSVP's we encourage everyone to post comments about the meetup ahead of time with comments, questions and suggestions. As an example, you may feel like playing something specific. If you post a message and let everyone know ahead of time we can drum up interest and see if anyone else is interested as well.
We accept all skill levels into our group. If you want to learn a game we are happy to teach. We have several Senior Officers that are excellent teachers. One specific officer that I must highlight is Tom. Tom not only teaches games, but also takes the time to interact with the people he plays with by asking questions or making suggestions. (Some suggestions he makes might be to his disadvantage but are made because they are the best move for the person). Tom always takes the time explain the reasoning behind his suggestions which has proven to improved peoples scores and expand the way people think. Please note: Tom has never, to my recollection, ever pushed suggestions or information onto anyone that was not interested.
If you have read all the way to this point it is safe to assume you are interested in joining us (I hope). We sincerely hope you will take the time to come to a session and get to know us. You won't be disappointed.
