Brian Putt: Entrepreneurs Use the Value of Information to Manage Uncertainty

Details

Come join entrepreneurs who eat problems for breakfast. At a Bootstrappers Breakfast® we have serious conversations about growing a business based on internal cashflow and organic profit: this is for founders who are actively bootstrapping a startup.

Brian Putt (http://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-putt-334699a3) of Probability Management (http://probabilitymanagement.org/) is our featured attendee. He will offer a briefing on "Entrepreneurs Can Manage Uncertainty by Understanding the Value of Information."

Brian Putt worked 41 years with Chevron performing project and portfolio analysis in the petroleum industry both upstream and downstream. He holds a BA in Economics from Claremont McKenna College, BS in General Engineering Stanford University, and a MS in Operations Research from Stanford University. He worked on many of Chevron’s major capital projects over the past 25 years to include value of information evaluations.

Brian is currently focusing on the use of SIPmath (http://probabilitymanagement.org/sip-math.html)as developed by Sam Savage of Probability Management. Brian has a YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQe6h4QIHvQ1Yje0SolEZCQ that has a number of informative videos on Decision Analysis. SIPmath is a free plugin for Microsoft Excel that allows you to perform arithmetic on uncertainties just as you would with numbers; it makes the abstract concept of a probability distribution actionable, additive, and auditable.

The other attendees will all be in startups. It will be a chance to compare notes on operational, development, and business issues with peers.

We meet in the back room, so space is limited — Please RSVP.

Cost is a small fee to offset the coordination cost, everyone pays for their own breakfast;
