Ukulele STRUM workshop #3 in Historic Lower Mills

• What we'll do

The ideal strum pattern for a particular song is neither obvious nor specified in the songsheet. After various examples, we will eventually figure out how to identify or prescribe the appropriate strum pattern for a song of interest.

In this session we will review the strum patterns for three chord songs: "Bad Moon Rising" and "Bye, Bye Love" and "Love Me Do" and other four-beat songs.

The hand that controls the timing, rhythm, syncopation, ... the groove is the one that strums, strokes, plucks, picks, taps, and knocks. Often the so-called "right hand technique" is overlooked in ukulele playing. People assume it comes naturally.

But it doesn't.

This one-hour workshop focusses only on the hand that does all of the above. Besides your basic down and up strokes, you will learn the different ways you can combine them, add accents, and the familiar "ukulele" pattern of more advanced players.

The session will be video recorded for playback for private viewing by participants only. Handouts will be emailed to participants after the workshop to ensure full eye contact and focus on technique and exercises during the workshop.

Unique opportunity to play music in what was the oldest chocolate factory in America. The Walter Baker Building is home to working artists. The Common Room contains a temporary exhibit launched from the annual Holiday Stroll.
