Hadoop and R - Options & Capabilities when Deploying R Analytics on Hadoop

Details

It is our distinct pleasure to have Bill Jacobs from Revolution Analytics (now Microsoft) present a technical deep-dive on Deploying R Analytics on Hadoop! Bill is a dynamic CTO that engineered Revolution Analytics rapid rise in the market and subsequent buyout by Microsoft. Come out and learn from one of the best on how R can be deployed on Hadoop for the enterprise in your organization! Be prepared for a few words on Microsoft’s direction with R as well.

Agenda:

• 6:00 – 6:30 - Socialize over food and drink

• 6:30 – 6:45 - Announcements, Upcoming Events

• 6:45 – 8:30 - Hadoop and R - Bill Jacobs

• 8:30 – ??? - Continued socializing

About The Presentation:

Hadoop users face a complex set of choices when considering predictive analytics solutions. There are good reasons for this. Analytics is not “one thing”, and needs vary broadly. As a result, selecting architectures and aligning them with evolving Hadoop distributions and your users’ changing needs is no simple operation.

At this meet-up, Bill Jacobs, VP Product Marketing and Field CTO from Revolution Analytics will compare options for R analytics on Hadoop including open source R, rHadoop, Revolution R Enterprise and some performance results from various configurations.

We’ll spend remaining time discussing some of the new application and architecture opportunities facing users of R on Hadoop such as memory-based execution, analytics in large shared clusters, real-time analytics, production deployment, model management infrastructures and sensor based apps.

About The Speaker:

Bill Jacobs is VP of Product Marketing for Revolution Analytics. He manages Revolution’s efforts to bring the R language to Hadoop and large EDWs. Bill joined Revolution 2 years ago from Pivotal, where he helped launch Pivotal Hadoop, and has previously worked for Netezza, Sybase, Apple and HP.
