RStudio Presents: Lessons for learning to program from learning a language

Details

Polygots, people who know and use multiple languages, use powerful learning techniques that can also be used for learning programming languages like R. Hadrien Dykiel, from RStudio, will share with you these techniques for acquiring languages efficiently and how they can also be used to help you learn R more quickly. In this session, we will talk about the science of memory and why we forget certain things and remember others, and how with the right strategy it is possible to actively select the things you wish to remember and make sure you never forget them. Hadrien will also share updates on both open source packages as well as professional products RStudio has been working on, including the rmarkdown package and RStudio Connect.

About the speaker:

Hadrien Dykiel is a Frenchman turned American who has had the fortune to experience what it is like to learn English as a second language as well as feel the frustration of forgetting the Spanish he once learned in school. This frustration is what led him to search for and learn about memory and learning techniques and how they can be leveraged for all types of skill acquisition. He works at RStudio as a customer success representative where he works with enterprises to help them get the most out of R and RStudio.
