Networking Events This Week

Long game last night with the power failure and all, tough loss for 49ers.  Didn’t find time for this message till this morning, Monday.
( If you got some spam e-mail from me, sorry.  Please just delete it, no need to call me on the phone.  One day we’ll look back and realize this is still the Model T era of computers and such )
Tomorrow morning, Tuesday, at 8:30am, there is the familiar Bio2Device at the Sunnyvale Council Chambers.  For some reason I cannot access their site this moment, but I found this on the LI site:
“An IRay of Hope: Stereotactic Radiosurgery for the Treatment of Wet AMD.
Dr. E. Mark Shusterman - -02/05/2013 --8:30am- Sunnyvale City Council Chambers -
Details at  “
( FWIW, I think I met this presenter at one of the Meetups.  )
Also Tuesday, at 11:30am in Hayward, there is an SME tour of Inland Metal.  Looks like it hasn’t sold out, registration is here:
( not sure I can get from B2D to the SME tour in time, may skip B2D this week )
Tuesday at 1pm there will be ToastMatchers at Connect in Sunnyvale.  Always a fun and useful experience.  A conflict with the SME tour this week of course.
There is also every Tuesday a SETI talk, usually at noon but sometimes in the evenings
( Unlikely I’ll be at any noon events, but might be at their next evening talk )
Tuesday evening, the Conservative Forum will “Celebrate Black History Month with a Perspective You Will Not Get from the Main Stream Media or the Cultural Elites”, with guest speaker Kevin Jackson. Doors open at 6:15pm at the Portuguese Hall in Mountain View.
( this one is always a personal conflict for me, the Triumph car club meets this same night every month )
Wednesday morning there's a Csix Semiconductor SIG in Santa Clara near Great America.  Contact me if interested.
Wednesday evening at Spenger’s in Berkeley, the dinner presentation is called “Lengthening the SuRi”, about how a local shipyard added 36 feet to a now 208 foot yacht.
( Long drive but I’m intent on going, any takers? )
Seems like there’s gotta be more going on Wednesday … I’ll keep looking.
No Eco Green Group meeting Thursday morning at 8am, they are meeting at night this week.
There’s also nothing shown on the Csix calendar for this Thursday at 10:15 in Saratoga, however I expect something will be going on as usual.
Thursday night there is a conflict between Eco Green Group and Medtech Frontiers at Triple Ring.
Eco Green Group features “Living Carbon Neutral: A Family Shows the Way”, new location this month, at SEMI, Main Entrance, SolarTech Conference Center.

6:30 pm - 7:00 pm Check-in, Networking & Light Refreshments, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Presentation
At the same time at Triple Ring in Newark, Medtech Frontiers presents “Cognitive Computing in Healthcare, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  Free event but they’d like an RSVP for planning purposes.
Also on Thursday evening, there is a joint IEEE Reliability and IEEE CPMT free event at Agilent in Santa Clara:
Friday Post ProMatch might be meeting in Campbell, there was talk of meeting every week last time.
Last week I mistakenly suggested there was a time conflict between the Csix recruiting event and the joint Dartmouth / MIT beer tasting event.  There were actually on different days :-)
The Csix interview workshop was heavily attended, it dawned on me for the first time the workshops are maybe 5X the attendance of the weekly meeting, not sure what it means, but there’s certainly no shortage of well-qualified, highly-motivated unemployeds out there.
The beer tasting event was different, fun, met some new people.  But without pizza or chips, four beers is a lot, maybe I’m getting old.  A few pics are here:
The MIT club “Energy and Clean Tech” event in the city with the Chevron speaker was outstanding, but did not as far as I could tell did not attract anyone else from the south bay unemployment community.  You can see most of the slides here:
though the real value of the talk were the numbers cited in the speech many of which are not in the slides.
Getting home well past midnight, maybe no excuse but I wasn’t on time for Post ProMatch, but did show up.  Also was at CAM Saturday, the presentation really wasn’t something I could get into however.
