Initial C++ - first meeting

Details
WAITLIST - Please note that the room has place for 40 people. Typically from experience, only half of the people that RSVP actually attend meetups. So, if you are waitlisted, please show up anyway, unless you are number 30 or above on the waitlist. In the unlikely case that we do get more than 40 people showing up, only the first 40 of those present that RSVPed or got waitlisted will get a place. Sort order will be time of RSVP. Unfortunately, we cannot seat more than 40 because of fire and safety rules.
If I see that we'll likely get more than 40, I will look for a bigger space, though I would need help from the community finding one.
This will be the first meeting of the "Initial C++" module of our free modern C++ course. Modern C++ (making use of the C++11 and later features) is very different to the C++ you may have learnt in the past or are currently using.
This meetup is a local chapter of the C++ London Uni group ( https://www.cpplondonuni.com ) and we'll be using their material.
Plan is to meet every Tuesday from 7-9PM.
Right now, I have booked space for the first 4 weeks (11/27, 12/4, 12/11, 12/18). We will not be meeting 12/25 and 1/1 :) Meetings will resume on 1/8
This first module of the course will likely last 6 weeks.
The room has space for 40 people.
Please bring a laptop as we will already be doing exercises. No special software is required - only a web browser. (We'll be using wandbox.org)
Please note that this first module is for beginners. While knowledge of another programming language is helpful, it is not a requirement. If you have been programming C++ for the last 20 years, I would skip this module, though with C++ there is always something to be learnt!
Topics on 11/27:
- Introduction to C++
- "Hello World"
- Types
- Functions
Parking: Use the parking garage behind the building. Please note that it has two entrances. The Hitchborn drive entrance gates usually close shortly after 7 PM, but the other entrance on the other end stays open 24/7. Parking is free. There are bike racks at both ends of the parking garage.
