The impending CLIMATE CRISIS is a real threat to the well-being of our future generations

Bicycles are not simply fun to ride and a great way to build exercise into our daily lives, but increased use will also be a major contributor in the fight against Climate Change.

On the 6th November CTC Glasgow members are teaming up with https://pedalonparliament.org/ to lead a ride from Paisley to Kelvingrove Park to guide people who enjoy riding in company, or may feel unsure of cycling in traffic, to get to the Global Day of Action. The event itself will be a walk from Kelvingrove to Glasgow Green to show that we want World Leaders to take effective action on Climate Change now, not tomorrow. Cyclists will be invited to join Pedal on Parliament's 'Cycling Bloc' at the march, where we will send out the message that THIS MACHINE FIGHTS CLIMATE CHANGE ๐Ÿšด. Details of the event are here https://actionnetwork.org/events/glasgow-global-day-of-action-for-climate-justice-6th-nov

(Please note, there is no need to sign up for this ride, but if you are already on Meetup, it would be great if you do. This will help us judge numbers.)

The ride will start from Paisley Gilmour Street Station at 9:30 am, but also stop at various points enroute to allow others to join. The route is about 12 miles and joining points can be seen here https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1680967

Feel free to dress yourself and your bike appropriately!

FOR CTC GLASGOW MEMBERS: If you are interested in volunteering as an additional ride marshal, please contact the ride organisers.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. While this ride is being lead & marshalled by experienced ride leaders, this ride is not an official Cycling UK/CTC Glasgow ride. All riders who participate do so at their own risk and we ask that any children under the age of 12 are supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

  2. The route as far as possible will make use of off-road cycleways, parks and quiet roads, but some short sections of cycling on the open road will be involved.

  3. While we are delighted to help you cycle to the start of the Global Day of Action, we are not able to help you get home afterwards. A possibility is to use the local SPT area trains which do not need pre-booking for bicycles. Several stations serve the south/southwest of Glasgow https://www.scotrail.co.uk/plan-your-journey/our-routes.

  4. There is no need to sign up on Meetup for this feeder ride, but if you are a Meetup member, please sign as this will help us understand likely numbers of attendees.
