Global Day of Code Retreat 2017

Details
We are pleased to announce our participation in the Global Day of Code Retreat 2017. Last year thousands of developers in hundreds of cities around the world participated in the Global Day of Code Retreat! This is an amazing opportunity to not only learn and share ideas, but to be part of the history of software development too.
What is a Code Retreat?
The Global Day of Code Retreat is a day-long event for developers around the world to come together and practise their craft. From the Code Retreat website (http://coderetreat.org/):
"Code Retreat is a day-long, intensive practice event, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. By providing developers the opportunity to take part in focused practice, away from the pressures of 'getting things done', the Code Retreat format has proven itself to be a highly effective means of skill improvement. Practising the basic principles of modular and object-oriented design, developers can improve their ability to write code that minimizes the cost of change over time."
Doors will open at 8.30am, and both breakfast and lunch will be provided over the course of the day. We will start promptly at 9.00am with a short introductory session, and the remainder of the day will be one-hour sessions of 45 minutes coding, 15 minutes retrospective, with a leisurely lunch at about 12.30pm. We'll have a couple of hook-ups with other participating cities around the world during the course of the day.
The problem to be tackled during the day will be Conway's Game of Life (http://archive.coderetreat.org/gol). TDD is the preferred methodology, and all sessions will be paired. Pairs will be swapped after each session, and the previous session's code will be deleted so that you can start afresh.
This is a great opportunity to pair with other developers, practice TDD, and be exposed to new languages and techniques. Conway's Game of Life is a fun and fascinating problem to tackle in code.
Please bring a laptop, with testing/building tools. It's ok if you do not have one, you'll be pairing all day, but it's easier if most people bring one.
