Understanding the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) using Python

Details

The NEM is now at the forefront of our media feeds as our Nation debates
the policies that will allow a path to a lower carbon NEM, via energy
efficiency, transition to renewables, and the orderly phasing out of our
ageing coal fleet. All this while providing energy security at low cost. For an industry that has remained relatively stable for many years, it is a
challenging, and fascinating time, with many opportunities for those who can
navigate the complexity and politics of this essential transition.

Geoff will share his experiences in developing an understanding of the NEM
through the development of a web site - nemlog.com.au - which has the aim
of sharing this knowledge.

Python and it's libraries are used to acquire disparate NEM, weather
and news data in accordance with their publishing time frames. Various
libraries and tools have been developed to collect, store and present the
data in useful formats (graphical, tabular and accessible data feeds).

Bio:
Geoff is an electrical engineer with a long career in the NSW Electricity
Transmission Network utility, most recently known as TransGrid. There he
worked in network construction, maintenance, operations and planning. He
found his way to Python via a language predecessor, Eiffel. He is now an
Energy Analyst, publishing NEM related information from nemlog.com.au
and twitter via @eljmkt_nemlog
