What we're about

For spiritual seekers of all backgrounds. I offer monthly groups exploring Celtic worldviews, spiritual traditions, ancestral connections, and mythic imagery. A core group is forming and we welcome new members and presenters. Celtic spirituality bridges ancient traditions of the British Isles and old Europe, early Celtic Christianity, revivals of written and visionary knowledge, and a living flow of mystical awareness and love of nature. All classes include information and time for questions. Each session includes a participatory or experiential activity such as a shamanic journey or simple ritual, and ends with a blessing circle.

Autumn Equinox, Harvest Home, & The Cave of the Sun. Sunday, 2 pm.

Welcome to the turning of the seasons on the Wheel of the Year. It's the time to celebrate the bounty of the Earth, and to witness the movement of the Sun on her downward path. We will start with a meet-and-greet and a fingerfood potluck, then move into an exploration of the symbolism of the season in the land and sky. Then we will journey into the Cave of the Sun to explore the inner mysteries of the Light moving through the darkness. IMAGERY Harvest Home festivals have flourished in rural areas of the British Isles for centuries. Villagers would sing, shout, douse each other with water. The last sheaf of grain was made into a harvest doll called the cailleac, (big hint here) and saved for spring planting. This ancient festival also included the symbolic murder of the grain spirit. Yes, old Sir John Barleycorn is dead, but he will surely rise again. We should raise a toast to his transformation. Within the bones of the land of Ireland herself lie an even deeper mystery. Within the cairns at Loughcrew lie several passage tombs that contain stones carved with sun-signs that light up at sunrise on certain key days: Cairn L lights up at Samhain and Imbolc, and Cairn T lights up on the Autumn and Spring Equinoxes! Cairn T is on the Mountain of the Hag (Slieve na Caillí, also spelled Sliabh na Calliagh) - and therein lies the core of the images and symbols that we will explore. The Calliagh, ("the Veiled One") is the ancient mother of winter, death, and transformation. She has been called a divine hag, a creator deity, a weather deity, and an ancestor deity. In Scots Gaelic she is Cailleach Bhéara or Beira, Queen of Winter. The Sun in Irish Gaelic, German, Eastern European, and many other world languages and cultures is feminine. Her Irish sites indicate an eternal dance between the old Sun, Grian, and the young Sun Aine. The Sun enters Slieve na Calli at the Autumn Equinox -- Aine's light of Summer is rapidly fading, the Calliagh is awakening. By Samhain/Hallowe'en, Aine will sleep, and the Calliagh will be in her power as darkness and winter fall upon the land. But don't worry, the young Sun will begin to emerge with Brigid the Midwife's light in February; the struggle will continue for 6 weeks (as declared by Groundhog); and the full beauty of Aine will be reborn in our hearts at the Spring Equinox, which is also celebrated at Sliabh na Calliagh. This is the wisdom of the Celtic Wheel of the Year. BY DONATION. All donations will be sent to our beloved Pueblo Elders in New Mexico. $10 to $30 appreciated, no one turned away for lack of funds. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Edie Stone is a Soul-Centered Counselor and Holistic Psychotherapist with 20 years of experience.
