In the meantime...enjoy this poem:
"Yule Tide-y" It Up
‘Twas fifteen days before Christmas, on the lake of our town,
There was too much trash and the water looked brown.
The SUP’s were lonely, all covered in dust,
We worried about all the litter and some of us cussed.
Our children were restless, but snug in their beds,
While visions of abandoned tennis balls danced in our heads.
And Jim in his studio, and I at my desk,
We devised some plans to make it less grotesque.
When out on the lake there arose such a clatter,
We sprang from our houses to see what was the matter.
Away to Shoal Creek we flew like a flash,
To whup up on litterbugs and clean up some trash.
The sun agleam off the blue and white pole
Gave the luster of mid-day to our little swimmin’ hole.
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But a sweet tricked-out SUP and eight awesome volunteers.
With a little old paddler, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than Californians, the volunteers came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now, Jim! now Suzy! now Rebecca! and Scott!
On, Susan! On, Rose! Karen and Charlotte!
To the top of the bridge! And the mosaic heart wall!
Now Tide-y up! Tide-y up! Tide-y up y'all!"
He had a broad face - and a little round belly,
That shook when he paddled, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist on his board,
He soon let us all know - trash would not be ignored;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the trashbags - this guy was no jerk,
He pronounced to the group - Litterbugs are like trash!
Then he jumped and he kicked and he twirled his mustache!
He turned on his board and headed west to the trestle
Chopping and kicking - still balanced on his vessel!
As fast as Bruce Lee! This Santa was HIP!
He said "I've got NINJA STYLE and a KUNG FU GRIP!"
Then we heard him exclaim, as he paddled out of sight,
Thanks for Keeping Austin Beautiful!!
