Camping trip with day hiking. Or just day hike
This is a trip in the Red River Gorge that has options for almost everyone. Hello everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your summer. But now I am really getting excited. Shoulder season is upon us, and it is time to get ready for it. This is a trip that anyone can do in the group, with many available options. Have gear, but are a little apprehensive about going on your first backpacking trip? Come try it out camping first, and enjoy some trails in the gorge. Are you just really bored, and want to go camping? Come on out. Do you just want to show up for just a day hike? Come on out Saturday morning for the hike. Don't want to hike, but you would like to camp? Just show on up later in the day, and pick a spot in camp to plop your rear. Don't want to hike or camp, just want to check out what we are about? you can do that as well. I am hoping to snag a site along tunnel ridge road in the gorge called Pioneer (I believe. It is the last parking lot camping site on the right before Auxier ridge parking lot. If that is not the correct name, I will update here). It is a great site, with plenty of room. I am wanting to go down to the gorge on Friday afternoon or evening to increase our odds of snagging this site. If this is not available I will find another one along tunnel ridge road, and update everyone on the site. I have not decided on what we will hike on Saturday, and we have a few options. We can do the always fun Auxier ridge, and Double Arch loop. Head over to do Indian staircase, or check out Eagles point buttress, and back to the cars. I can lead whatever trip you all want to do. If more people show up who are comfortable in the gorge, and would be O.K. leading a trip, we could have multiple trips, and let everyone choose what they would like to do. The campsites along tunnel ridge road are primitive (mostly) meaning there are not electrical hook ups, or water access. There are is a privy to use, but make sure to bring your own supplies just in case. If you plan on camping, these trips always turn out to be an excellent time. We share stories around the fire, eat good food, have some laughs, and almost always lead into discussing gear (if you are like me at least). So, come on out, and get a chance to meet some people in the group, and have a good time. If you plan on drinking, please BYOB, and make so to do so responsibly. It is o.k to have fun, but not at the cost of another persons good time. If you plan on camping overnight, make sure to purchase an overnight pass at one of the gas stations on the Slade exit. I am o.k with dogs, as long as you have a leash, and they can behave. This Is why I do not bring my dog along, she cant handle. Ha! I love pooches, and leave that decision up to the owners. You know your animal best. I hope to see everyone out there. If you all have any suggestions, or any comments, please do so here, or drop me an email. And as always, donations to pay the meetup site fees are appreciated, but are not expected. Happy trails, Myles
