RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) is a 70 room hotel largely operated by volunteers. Families with a sick child at Nationwide Children's Hospital (or other Franklin county hospital like OSU) stay there and agree to clean their room while there. Here is the description of this volunteer position from RMH:
Work with our guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. Our Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and attend an orientation before they can start volunteering. our Volunteer Application can be completed online by clicking here (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer), or can be downloaded by clicking here (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/img/volunteer_app2.pdf). Once we have received your application we will sign you up for an orientation session."
The next orientation session is June 20th and you would need to complete an application in advance. (We suggest signing up at least a week before - click here (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer) - but Dave got in 2 days before the May orientation. They had bagels/pastries/snacks at the May orientation in case you don't have time to eat beforehand.)
At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check, tour the facility and sign up for your first of three training shifts. Daily shifts are: morning 9 am - 1 pm, afternoon 1 pm - 5 pm and evening 5 pm - 9 pm. (FYI, Dave plans to work on Saturday evenings or sometime on Sundays 1 or 2 times/month.)
