"The Journal of Albion Moonlight" by Kenneth Patchen
“An unforgettable, apocalyptic novel from a distinctly American prophet….Inspired by one of the finest lyrics in the English language, the anonymous, pre-Shakespearean 'Tom o’Bedlam' ('By a knight of ghosts and shadows / I summoned am to tourney / Ten leagues beyond the wide world’s end / Methinks it is no journey…'), Kenneth Patchen sets off on an allegorical journey to the furthest limits of love and murder, madness and sex. While on this disordered pilgrimage to H. Roivas (Heavenly Savior), various characters offer deranged responses, conveying an otherworldly, imaginative madness. A chronicle of violent fury and compassion, written when Surrealism was still vigorous and doing battle with psychotic 'reality,' The Journal of Albion Moonlight is an American monument to engagement.”

What we're about

Public Group

I'm hoping to combine two things that I love: Literature and discussion about literature that takes place in a relaxed cafe atmosphere (nothing too fancy here & drinking is optional). A nice way to meet other literature lovers and smart conversationalists.

Come and join the fun and expand your horizons a bit when it comes to literature! I need motivation at times to complete my reading list and maybe you do too? I'm a fan of classic literature (think Aeschylus, Dostoyevsky, Mann, Balzac, Cervantes, Goethe, Hardy, Faulkner) who has a special fondness for modernist and postmodernist writing (e.g., Brautigan, Broch, Breton, Celine, Kundera, Joyce, Rilke, Woolf, Zamyatin, Pynchon, Acker, Cortazar, Ellison, Pamuk, Calvino, Kluge, Garcia-Marquez). If you, like me, are also a fan of thought-provoking foreign/experimental 'art' cinema, you should check out my Radical Visions Cinema Club:
