Details

--- ORGANIZER NOTE---
Code for Philly is excited to partner with Esri to offer a series of workshops and weekly events for our community. This first workshop will take place at Esri's office in Chesterbrook. Read on to learn more. We hope you can make it!

--- WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION ---

Using open transit data, we'll learn how to problem solve using the ArcGIS tools to explore, filter, analyze, and visualize the open data.

Led by Esri's Jim Barry, this will be a 2-hour, hands-on, bring-your-own-machine, learning lab for getting started building highly customized mapping applications using ArcGIS. The course will follow the following three-step pattern:

DATA: (30 min)
Before you can build an app, you need a map; and before you can make a map, you need data. Whether you're finding it on various data portals or collecting and editing the data yourself, learn techniques for getting the data you want to visualize and analyze into your map. Some of the datasets we will work with can be found on the OpenDataPhilly and OpenDataPA web sites.

DESIGN: (30 min)
An effective mapping application needs a well-designed map. Learn some
basic cartographic principles for making your apps intuitive and powerful to use.

DEVELOP: (60 min)
If you are not a coder, you can still build custom web and native applications using templates and builders. But if you are a developer, get your hands on the ArcGIS APIs and SDKs for including mapping capabilities into apps you build.

--- SCHEDULE---

6:00pm - Doors open.

---CODE OF CONDUCT---
