[18 Tech Talks in 1 Day]
The 7th BIG MiniConf will be held on February 29, 2020!
Our 11th cohort students will give 18 Tech Talks, all on different topics. You are free to join the whole event, or come and go as you please.
We have 2 simultaneous tracks (A & B).
TRACK B SCHEDULE:
13:00 Using Electron to Create a Cross-Platform App
Genta Shibasaki
Genta will talk about what is Electron, how to use it, and what you are able to do it through a demo. He will also discuss the pros and cons of creating an app with Electron. Electron is becoming great framework as it is used to build famous desktop applications such as VS Code and Atom.
13:30 Getting Started with APIs and IoT
Kasumi Nakano
This app tells users to proper setting temperature and degree of AC and humidifier to create a comfortable atmosphere through gathering air information, like the temperature and humidity, and user's situation. The user can know how to use AC equipment to lower its degree more efficiently.
14:00 AI in Photography and Editing Software
Kan Phongjaroenwit
How AI is reshaping and will change the world of photography: the impact on the approach to photograph, the current tool/medium available (film => digital storage) and the deep dive into the AI-powered editing software. Will artificial intelligence remove the traditional photography?
14:30 Animations with JavaScript
Ryuki Kuga
Ryuki will cover:
How easy it is to get started with visualisation in JS?
How effective it is to use that technology to attract people?
He will also answer questions regarding 3D animation with JS and general JS questions. People should come to this talk since they can get started with 3D animation with JS right after the presentation if interested!
15:00 CSS Art & Creative CSS
Max Turer
Max will explore the creation of CSS art and the way art techniques can be applied to developing CSS skills. This talk will go over simple design, animation, and traditional media replication done entirely in CSS. It will also explore making CSS animations of sprite sheets and other game resources. It will discuss how this can be useful beyond art and game-making, as well, as a resource to develop a more creative CSS style.
15:30 A Brief Introduction to Image Recognition
Daniel Reaney
A brief history of image/object recognition and what it actually is. He will talk about the differences between the various methods of image recognition. He will also cover different implementations and when you might use higher level or low level libraries and frameworks. People should come if they are interested in learning about how image recognition works.
16:00 Getting into VR world using AFrame
Miki Masumoto
Miki will cover these topics:
- Introduction to VR
- Difference between WebVR and NativeVR
- Basic understanding of WebVR frameworks/libraries
- How to create WebVR using A-Frame
- How WebVR application created by A-Frame works(Demo)
This talk is for people who want to start creating WebVR app with beginner-level knowledge.
16:30 Unity: From Scratch to Multiplayer
Sarah Ting
Don't know how to make video games, but interested in getting into it? Fiddled with Unity but not sure how to translate your theoretical knowledge to a completed game? This talk is a beginner-friendly Unity walkthrough, covering everything from setting up a new Unity project to deploying a multiplayer game with persisted data.
17:00 The Hero of JavaScript – Recreating retro games with JS and HTML canvas
Mary Sedarous
It's the Legend of Zelda--in JavaScript! If you can recreate your favorite Hyrulian hero in JavaScript, then you can recreate any of your favorite 8-bit games. This tech talk aims to give you those tools, and teach your how to use JavaScript to create 8-bit games in the browser.
We'll just be using ""vanilla"" JS [this might change] and HTML canvas and going from there. "
