Government works best when it’s government by the People. On August 11th, join the Code for America Brigades as we host National Day of Civic Hacking–a nationwide day of action to bring together civic leaders to work with our local governments to tackle some our toughest challenges.
Code for Denver is delighted to be hosting National Day of Civic Hacking as a day-long hackathon here in Denver.
THEME: Foster greater civic engagement through easy access to data, connecting people, gamification, and or impact metrics.
It’s hard for many people to stay actively engaged since often access to resources is fragmented, there is limited transparency in how their activities have an impact, and tools that might exist are not always engaging experiences.
Many people either don’t know where to start to get more engaged with civic life or have a hard time staying engaged. How do we generate new civic engagement? How do we keep people involved? Increasing civic engagement will help ensure that our entire community has an active and effective voice in how we grow as a society. Fostering this sort of engagement, by definition, will tie people closer to solutions to problems in their community, creating a dialog centered around action.
