Colorado Magento Meetup - An Introduction to Javascript in Magento 2

When Magento inc. shipped out the code base for 2.0, it was obvious right away that everything had changed. For those with a history of developing in Magento 1.x, Javascript was one of the many places where no set standard of implementation had led to a monkey patch philosophy of integration. Long gone are the days of loading a random script in your local.xml file and hoping that you didn't end up with jQuery conflicts.

Javascript in Magento 1.x was the wild west of client side scripting. Magento 2 sought to solve this problem. But as is the case with all things Magento 2, they solved the Javascript issue with a few design patterns and some large learning curves.

Our goal for this Meetup is to clear up the confusion around Require JS, calling script files from templates (and cms block), the built in jQuery widget system and why the new way of using Javascript in Magento 2 is almost enjoyable when you understand just a few simple concepts.

--Venue Info--

Fluid Coffee Bar has a meeting room in the back that we will be taking over. It's located on the corner of 19th and Pennsylvania, right outside of Downtown Denver. There is access into the space in the back of the shop, but it's you are coming late, there are doors on the outside of the space for direct access to the meeting room, you don't have to go through the coffee shop. Parking is all street parking, and in this area is a roll of the dice, but I have always been able to find plenty of spots. Take note of the street signs, almost all parking has a 2 hours limit, but the ends at 6pm. After that parking is unlimited all night long.
