What we're about

The Colorado Mountain Club is the premier outdoor club of the Rocky Mountain Region. Skiing, climbing, hiking, etc. The outdoors is our passion!

We are organized to unite the energy, interest and knowledge of the students, explorers and lovers of the mountains of Colorado; to collect and disseminate information regarding the Rocky Mountains to advance science, literature, art and recreation; to stimulate public interest in our mountain area; and to encourage the preservation of forests, flowers, fauna and natural scenery.

The Colorado Mountain Club is a statewide organization comprised of several local groups such as the Boulder Group. To find out more about the CMC Boulder Group, we suggest you visit our website at http://www.cmcboulder.org/ .

There are no strangers in the mountains, only friends you haven't met! To join the CMC, go to the state website at http://www.cmc.org and click on "Join".

Winter Classes are available - Avalanche; AT/backcountry - tele and more

See our current selection of winter classes offered through CMC Boulder group or https://www.cmc.org/Classes/CMCClassesandSchools.aspx Avalanche awareness and safety training is a must for anyone who engages in winter activities in the backcountry, including backcountry skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, climbing, and backpacking to name a few. The Colorado Mountain Club offers courses from the American Institute of Avalanche Research Education (AIARE). AIARE Level 1 courses teach you to recognize avalanche terrain, how to assess when it is safe to be in the area, and rescue techniques. AIARE certified CMC volunteer instructors will discuss topics such as snow pack evaluation, hazard analysis, safe travel techniques, beacon/transceiver use, and avalanche rescue. If you're not quite ready for an AIARE Level 1 course, we recommend you start by taking an Avalanche Terrain Avoidance (ATA) seminar. This course teaches you where to find information on avalanche conditions and how to steer clear of avalanche terrain while in the backcountry. Scholarships are available to support continued education and training for CMC trip leaders and instructors.
