The Second Meetup: In Which We Ponder "What Is Content Strategy?"

What is content strategy? Lots of us are interested in that question, so let's discuss it at our second meeting. Whether you've got answers or follow-up questions, bring them. Seekers can find gurus, gurus can find followers, and it'll all be lovely and educational for everyone. We can consider it well discussed by the end, or we can decide to come up with an agenda for a more formal discussion at a later meetup. ("Ask the content strategist," anyone?) Let's do Vermilion again for this meeting. If the discussion indicates that we'd like someone (or several someones) to do PowerPoint presentations or the like, we can make plans to do that at a following event. I'm scheduling this one later in the evening than last time so people can grab dinner or get over here from the east side. Vermilion does have some food in addition to a large wine list, so you can eat there if you'd rather do that. One more favor: Bring a friend who's into content strategy, web writing, or UX. Let's spread the word about good web content in Seattle. (Also, we should figure out where we'd like to go for Operation: Halvorson when Kristina is in town in April.)

I thought that this meeting went very well. Lots of different input, suggestions, and open conversations. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone.

I thought the meeting went very well. It was great to meet everyone and listen to different perspectives. Joy and Maya both brought up excellent points. As a freelance web developer much of conversation didn't apply to my situation since I don't operate in a corporate environment, and usually work with clients one on one. Usability testing for me is asking my friends & family to go through the site by themselves (during development) and give me feedback. My clients are small business/nonprofits & aren't really receptive to spending money for this type of testing.

I would be interested in hearing real life examples of the workflow process. Very interested in hearing how another freelance like myself deals with the process. Since my clients are writing their own content I usually educate and guide them through the process of writing for the web. And it's the client that I'm strategizing with for the best presentation, easiest readability, and marketing.

    Great meeting, thanks!

It took a little while to bring the whole group together, but I really liked the "round table" discussion that took place once everyone was gathered. It might have been useful to have gone around the group for introductions, where we work, official title, and what we're hoping to get out of being a part of this group. While I don't think the meetup is the place for a designated speaker or a presentation, it might be interesting to sort-of profile a member each meeting to learn some more specifics about how that person is incorporating content strategy into a business, and what works and what they're struggling with.

Wish I could be there but I'm committed to a state of the union address event and then leaving for San Francisco.
