The ODIN Presents: Hands On CRISPR Cas9 Genome Engineer in Bacteria

Details
Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats(CRISPR) is just a long name to say that Scientist found a protein(Cas9) that can use an RNA guide to make highly specific cuts in DNA. This allows unprecedented abilities to edit and engineer DNA. The reason it is such a great Synthetic Biology tool is the specificity and general applicability. One can target almost any DNA region in almost any organism and the time to do this is an order of magnitude less than before with other genetic engineering techniques. In this class we will teach you about CRISPR, why everyone thinks it is so cool and then we will all replicate one of the first ever experiments performed using CRISPR on bacteria for genome engineering (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3748948/).
Class size: 30, please no walk-ins
Cost: FREE, However, suggested $15 donations to Counter Culture Labs would be much appreciated by them.

About The ODIN
The ODIN is a group of BioHackers and Scientists who are trying to make Science accessible to anyone by providing reagents and supplies through their website(http://the-odin.com) and training through classes.
