Creating Connection One Conversation at a Time Join us for meaningful conversation, connect with others and meet new friends, as we discuss the week's topic and some deeper questions together. We offer a safe, inclusive, casual, and accepting environment that encourages dialogue over debate through sharing from our diverse perspectives and experiences. We enjoy going beyond small talk, while at the same time building community, creating meaning, and valuing the worth of all persons, in an effort to promote peace and understanding in the world by envisioning our role together... and your voice matters! Come, simply to discover yourself amidst a community on a common journey, or to leave just a little bit better then you came. Come, listen, share, and find meaning here. We welcome you. P.S. Street parking is free in the evenings, but can be difficult to find. We recommend using the parking garage next to the TD Canada Trust on Collier Street. Its also free and only a block and a half away from the coffee shop. See you there!
The community is invited to a show of peace, love and support by gathering together in the unity of our diversity at the Maryam Islamic Mosque on Saturday evening in response to last week's attacks on two New Zealand mosques. Taking inspiration from similar actions around the GTA last week and this week (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/programs/metromorning/rings-of-peace-mosques-1.3965313), lets get together and form a protective 'ring of peace' around this local mosque and stand with them in an act of defiant solidarity, and that they aren't alone. Let's help promote the more positive message that they are not alone, that we care and respect each other's differences. Hope you can be there. Should you need a ride, please let us know. Peace. Salam. Shalom.
A weekly holistic practice based on the Zen Buddhist tradition and the mindfulness technique is led by your guide Leandro as we connect live with him on-line from the comfort of our new community centreplace and 60" HDTV. These sessions are open to everyone: we welcome all religious and ethnic backgrounds, and gender identities and expressions. We respect all spiritual types and sensibilities, from those who simply want to achieve deep relaxation, manage stress, anxiety, and depression, to those who walk the path of spiritual growth. You decide what the meaning of your meditation is. The first section is guided and is designed to help you find the right posture and breathing rhythm. We focus our mind and explore our consciousness envisioning images and considering ideas that draw together ancient thought and mythology from the Eastern and Western traditions with up-to-date theories in the fields of neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, and philosophy of mind. We'll then do some gentle yoga and stretching exercises to relax the core muscles, followed by 10 minutes of silent unguided meditation. We close chanting mantras or short phrases. All levels are welcome. This is a judgment-free, non-competitive environment. You can either sit on a chair or your own meditation cushion. You can bring a change of clothes to make your practice more comfortable. Doors open at 5:30 pm to allow time for greetings and centering preparations. Meditation begins at 6:00 pm. The guided part ends at 7:00 pm at which point the space is reconfigured for the incoming lecture series, which everyone is welcome to participate in, followed by the exchange of ideas over complimentary snacks and beverages. Though there is no cost for this activity, a goodwill donation of $5 is suggested (for those who are able) to help cover costs and continue providing this space, activities, events and programming to the surrounding community (a tax receipt can be provided for amounts of $20 and over). Coffee, teas, water and snacks will be available. Hope to see you there, and as always, if you are in need of a ride, please send a message to have one arranged. NOTE: The RSVPs here represent only some of the folks who may be attending. The turn-out is likely to be larger as this event is also advertised through several other on-line and print mediums. Creating Connection Barrie 12 Chase McEachern Way, L4M 1A1 email: [masked] Website: https://barrie.creatingconnection.ca Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barriecreatingconnection/ Creating Connection Barrie is part of a network of over twenty communities across Ontario committed to sharing authentic conversation, promoting meaningful activities and fostering holistic mind-body practices. People of every walk of life, culture, faith or tradition, participate in a myriad of connection groups, forming meaningful community within the reality of this welcomed diversity. As a result of this inclusive outlook, these communities are multi-faceted - expressing the inspirations, aspirations, wisdom, practices and blessing of all. By welcoming and accepting people who identify as “more spiritual than religious”, those searching for meaning, and those with humanist or agnostic approaches to life, the collective Creating Connection experience transcends the sum of our individual ways of being. By embodying the principle of unity in diversity, we discover that dialogue is enriched by individuals with different backgrounds and experiences - and even by viewpoints which are contrary. By building relationships of trust, we can facilitate inner peace and meaningful conversations in our inclusive communities.
