Lecture: How to Spot Logical Fallacies
Does your argument make sense? We'll map out common errors like “post hoc ergo propter hoc.” OPEN LECTURE by historian John Hamer (streamed live from our Toronto Centreplace in a 65" big screen theatre room) "Truth isn't truth!" Rudy Giuliani recently asserted in defense of his client Donald Trump. In an era when so many people are insisting the anything they believe or say is just as valid as anything anyone else might say, society sometimes seems to have lost track of basic rules of logic. Our presentation tonight will offer a refresher course, mapping out common logical errors from the law of non-contradiction (which Giuliani lost track of) to old favorites like “post hoc ergo propter hoc.” The presentation ends around 9.00. The exchange of ideas usually continues until 10, or even later, while we share complimentary snacks and beverages. The venue is our new community centreplace located at 51B Collier Street (at Owen Street). We invite you to consider making a donation to help us continue to offer these lectures (and other programming/activities) to the community regardless of income lever or financial situation. If you donate $25 or more throughout 2018 we can issue an income tax receipt.

What we're about

Many of us crave deeper connections in life. Not only with another person, but within ourselves, the environment around us, the physical world we live in, the infinite universe, or The Divine itself. Creating connection can take on many meanings and can look different for each of us.

Utilizing effective models and practices such as Conversation Cafés, TED Talk Discussions, Retreats, & Workshops, Free Listening Stations, Reading Groups, Food & Nutrition Awareness, Physical Mindfulness, Pay-it-Forward Actions, the Zentangle Method, the Kindness Rocks Project, Care & Compassion Programs, Adult Colouring Therapy, and many others, a more compelling picture can begin to emerge for you, and help create a greater awareness of how everything is so very interconnected.

Whether you feel it through your mind, your body or inner being, Deep Connection eludes many of us, thanks, in part, to the noise of the distractions all around us every day. Technology, social media, cultural expectations, schedules too busy to manage, etc., all can dampen our ability to make the very connections that we're craving for in our every day lives.

In the end, our goal is to create opportunities for you to experience this awakening and transformation, that in the end will allow you to find more connection and wholeness in your life. We look forward to this journey together.
