"Privacy for the weak, transparency for the powerful." --Cypherpunk motto
On Saturday February 17th from 4pm to 10pm we have a very special hackathon: one dedicated to hacking on OpenOversight, a police accountability project developed by Jennifer Helsby and other members of Lucy Parsons Labs.
About the project:
OpenOversight is a website that crowdsources data and photographs of police officers for police oversight and accountability. Using OpenOversight, members of the public can search for the names and badge numbers of police officers they have interactions with based on the officer’s estimated age, race and gender in order to file police complaints. OpenOversight is currently live with Chicago Police Department data and we’re hoping to finesse the workflow and scale to other cities.
If you have UX, UI, design, Python or JavaScript skills, come by and help us improve OpenOversight!
(Special thanks to Jennifer for preparing GitHub issues in advance of the event to make it as simple as possible for CWC members to contribute to OpenOversight.)
