Drone Summer Workshop for Teens
In the this Summer Drone Workshop students learn how to build their own drone from scratch, which they keep at the end of the session. This intensive workshop is designed for students who want a deeper understanding of how to assemble, build, program, troubleshoot, and operate drones. One goal is for students to develop a better understanding of flight systems by using Arduino micro controllers to examine how a drone is stabilized. Through this path, students will learn C++ programming and how to integrate sensors to a micro controller. We will cover safe flight practices, FAA regulations, and learn how to fly the drones in a controlled environment so after the workshop is over, students will have a well rounded foundation to continue learning about drones. The class is one week long from Monday through Friday from 10-3PM. The workshop is led by Fred Briggs, a James Madison University Adjunct professor, who has taught Drone classes at JMU, ODU and GMU. Fred is a product developer at TEQ Strategy which focuses on creating prototype drone technology. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the DC area Drone User Group and has previously served on the board of Directors for the Nova Labs Makerspace To Register for class and reserve a slot please go to; http://teqstrategy.com/droneworkshop.html

    What we're about

The DC Area Drone User Group (DC DUG) is an organization for amateur and professional drone users that seeks to promote the responsible use of flying robots for community service, artistic, entrepreneurial, and recreational purposes. All experience levels are welcome. We get together as a community to share tips, experiences, and of course to do some flying. We work to educate ourselves about how to build and use drones in a safe and respectful manner and to educate the public about the positive role aerial robotics can play in our society. Most importantly, we think that flying robots are a lot of fun! DC DUG is a member of the Drone User Group Network (http://droneusergroup.net), an association of community organizations that promote the use of civilian drone technology for the benefit of humanity.
