Outdoors race at Circuit Launch

Details

As we tiptoe back into in-person events at Circuit Launch in Oakland, the first one will be an outdoors event.

Inspired by the Sparkfun Autonomous Vehicle Competition (RIP), this will be in the parking lot outside Circuit Launch. This first one will just be a track for you to use but no official judging; once we have some feedback on the track we'll make it official for future events.

What's different about outdoors:

  1. You can use GPS. RTK base stations (Swiftnav and Reach) will be provided for those whose cars are equipped to use them.
  2. You can use other external positioning systems. A Marvelmind ultrasonic beacon system will be in place for those using that
  3. It's a bigger track, for faster and bigger cars,
  4. Real-world lighting conditions to stress your computer vision more!

Guidelines for the race are here:

To comply with Alameda County Covid guidelines, we are limiting attendance to 50 people (just those who want to bring a car and try it out). The event will be socially distanced and all participants must wear masks throughout.

There will be no lunch provided this time, but there are nearby places with outdoors seating.

We hope to also resume indoors racing at Circuit Launch in Q1, Covid permitting.
