To wrap up the year, we want to inspire your data visualization learning journey! We'll have a talk from Mike Cisneros on the value of investing your time in building public visualizations and share projects from community members.

6:00-6:30 - Refreshments and Networking
6:30-7:15 - "You are an Artist" from Mike Cisneros
7:15-8:00 - Viz and Tell featuring DVDC Community Members (see below for notes on how to volunteer!)

You are an Artist: How and why to get started making public data visualizations

Whether it’s for fun, for practice, for activism, or for pure curiosity, creating your own visualizations and putting them out in public has a tremendous upside—for you, your company, and the world. It doesn't have to be scary! In this talk, we will discuss various facets of public visualizations such as how to start vizzing in public, common design pitfalls to watch for, how to get comfortable with not succeeding, and much more.

Speaker Notes:
At various times in his career, Mike Cisneros has been: an editor; a software developer: a graphic designer; a data analyst; and an online community builder.

Today, he uses the skills learned from all these disciplines to provide elegant, persuasive, and effective data visualizations, for fun and profit.

Viz & Tell
Get up in front of your peers and talk about a viz project you're working on for 5 minutes. This is a great opportunity to get feed back on your work and to practice your presentation skills in a safe space. If you are interested in presenting, then please email ([masked]) to let us know you want to talk.

Speaker Notes:
You're one of the coolest people in the DC area. You really like data visualization and you're excited to show your work to others. You're also a kind person who can provide constructive criticism to others.
