MPP (massively parallel processing) systems (such as Teradata) have been common in corporate Data Warehousing environments for many years. Some MPP concepts are also part of the foundation for many of the emerging big data solutions. Understanding the basic concepts of MPP query and processing tuning can be applied across all of these parallel data systems. This discussion includes real world experience tuning these systems for optimal processing and querying. Interactive questions and discussion are encouraged.
Extending the Enterprise Data Warehouse with Hadoop
Thought we would try something new. This video presentation is of Rob Lancaster of Orbitz at the QCon in San Francisco last month. He explains the steps made by Orbitz in order to bridge the gap between their data in the data warehouse and the data in Hadoop. It is an interesting video and I think will create a good kernel for discussion and conversation.
