Turning Moments into Myth with Erica Walker Adams

Turning moments into myth -- what makes a tarot card? Explore the possibilities and design your own.

Erica will facilitate a discussion on the a-ha moment -- the moment when a tarot card and a situation perfectly align. Worried about your health and get positive results back from a company that uses the sun as a logo? Lose your keys and pull the Four of Swords, then find the keys under your bed? We'll talk about traditional tarot iconography matching up with a situation as well as details from modern decks matching up with a situation. We'll discuss what makes these experiences mythic!

Then we'll create a tarot card for our own mythic experiences. We'll find an event in our lives that can be illustrated symbolically. Colored pencils, markers, collage materials, and other treasures will be provided, as well as examples from handmade decks!

This is a fabulous project for all levels, including brand-new beginners, because it gives you a chance to look at the cards from a fresh viewpoint and discover how they relate to your own life. I hope you can join us!

This was awesome! My first real experience with Tarot cards and it was very welcoming, engaging, and nonthreatening. I feel that this event actually allowed me to become personally engaged with the event. I look forward to learning more!

Erica did a good job last night engaging everyone in your presentation. She helped us all to realize there is always more depth to the cards to be explored. Good job Erica

LOVED this experience! The slightly acerbic quality the presenter used was very funny and really freed us up to explore our own creativity.

Although I never finished my collage, the the creative process ended up becoming its own oracular commentary on the card I drew, pulling out some very specific personal connections with the imagery. There was significant meaning culled from the action as well as the product.

Sadly I will not be able to make this one. I'm going to meet my nephew in Virginia! :-)
