Clouds With Silver Linings: Maximising Learning From Incidents

Details
We know things will go wrong, but what happens next? How do we learn from incidents and become more prepared?
Join Ian Malpass (Stitch Fix) to find about more about exactly that, in "Clouds With Silver Linings: Maximising Learning From Incidents":
Despite our best efforts and intentions, we experience failures in our systems. This is an inevitable consequence of the complexity of the systems we're working in. Rather than viewing incidents as purely negative events, we should think of them as our systems trying to give us feedback, if we'll take time to learn from them. This talk will cover concepts and techniques that will help you create and contribute to more fruitful postmortems, and how to ask yourself and others questions that will help you uncover the systemic factors underlying the incidents you're trying to understand.
Ian is a Principal Software Engineer on the Styling Engineering team at Stitch Fix. Previously at GitHub and Etsy, he's seen his share of incidents, and participated in more postmortems than he can recall.
Hosted at SPS Commerce, with food and beverage sponsored by Travelers (https://careers.travelers.com/profile/join/).
