Open Source Night - Mentoring and Pairing
Details
Thanks to Madison Public Library for hosting us. Food sponsorship is pending but there will be light snacks at the minimum.
Join us for a night focused on trying to contribute to Open Source!
HOW IT WORKS
- Fill out the interest form linked below to specify your technology interest and what contribution you can give (coding vs non-coding).
- Prior to the event, we'll identify the top technologies where we can make the most pairs, and identify open source projects aligned with that technology. We'll post those in the comments below.
- At the event, we'll ad-hoc randomly pair Mentors and Mentees up. Priority will be given to making pairs, but depending on numbers, we may end up in groups of maximum 4 people per group.
- Pair up and get stuff done! If pairing on coding, Mentor and Mentee will each get 5 minutes at the keyboard and keep switching.
- Hopefully, in this session, both of you can complete a distribution to the open source project! Note that this goal is a tall one, and may not be completed, but that's okay! Take this as a night of learning and take away learnings, not failures :)
NOTE:
You do not have to contribute code. You can contribute many other helpful things like:
- Testing and Reporting Issues.
- Improving documentation.
Other contribution ideas: https://smartbear.com/blog/test-and-monitor/14-ways-to-contribute-to-open-source-without-being/
So come even if you don't know how to code :)
Come learn/teach, improve your skills and at the same time, contribute to open source!
