What we're about

Digital Okanagan is a community of creative and entrepreneurial professionals from across the valley, represented by a wide spectrum of digital professions and specializations such as agencies, artists, developers, designers, educational and cultural institutions, freelancers, startups, and students.

We believe:

Collaboration > Competition
Community > Agendas
Participation > Observation
Doing > Saying
Friendship > Formality
Learning > Expertise

Digital Okanagan creates experiences that encourage digital and technology professionals to explore shared interests in and outside of work. Our array of learning, sharing, connecting events provide opportunities to break loose from the status quo and explore exciting new things while building lasting relationships with our peers.

We have run hundreds of successful meetups, covering everything from typography to inversion control, and from cryptocurrency to sketchnoting. We’ve just wrapped the 4th annual Startup Weekend Okanagan and through strategic partnerships, developed 10 day long ‘Startup Week’ conference.

What is Digital Okanagan?

As a grassroots volunteer driven community group, we work with a variety of industries throughout the Okanagan, to activate a large network of digital media and technology professionals.

Our ambition is to make the Okanagan the greatest place to do what we love... together.

Through our actions, it is our goal to:

Sustain the growth of the Okanagan’s digital media community within our province, country and globally.

Celebrate and promote individuals and organizations that foster creativity, technology and digital media in the Okanagan.

Engage with and encourage new and established professionals to stay in the Okanagan in order to increase capacity and productivity within the industry.

Promote openness, creativity and collaboration between individuals and organizations, acting as the digital hub for our community.

Through this connection and support we believe that our industry will thrive.

Zero-downtime Applications With Kubernetes

Okanagan coLab

Register at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/zero-downtime-applications-with-kubernetes-tickets-56461553025 The software world moves faster than ever. In order to stay competitive, new software versions need to be rolled out as soon as possible, without disrupting active users. Many enterprises have moved their workloads to Kubernetes, which has been built with production-readiness in mind. However, in order to achieve real zero-downtime with Kubernetes, without breaking or loosing a single in-flight request, we need to take a few more steps. This session shows what it takes to deploy and update enterprise applications with minimal user disruption. We will see how to detect gaps in our deployments and how to enhance our applications as well as our Kubernetes deployments to close these gaps. We’ll also see how to upgrade cluster nodes without causing the running applications to go dark. All of the time will be spent live-demoing.
