Dubai Data Science Meetup in Smart Dubai, June 2019

Smart Dubai Office

Dear Colleagues, We are happy to announce that the second Dubai Data Science meetup this year will be in partnership with Smart Dubai, taking place on the 22nd of June at office of Smart Dubai in the Dubai Design District, Building 1A. We have a special surprise for you at this meet up. As well as our usual presentations, we will also announce an exciting new data challenge in partnership with Smart Dubai. All will be revealed in the second part of our meetup but we can confirm the challenge will run over a few months, with some fantastic prizes to be won. During the first part of the meetup, as usual, we will have 3-4 short talks, 20 minutes each. If you or someone you know want to do a presentation, please drop an email to [masked]. Priority will be given to social and city-related data science use cases. We are also considering involving other companies and experts in the data challenge as mentors, in this case, please drop an email to [masked]. Agenda: - 9:30 registration starts - 11:00 "Using computer vision for public health to build a better future" by Vivek Kalyanarangan (https://www.linkedin.com/in/vivekkalyanarangan/) Vivek will talk about using monocular and stereo vision to effectively manage Malaria in remote areas using drones - 11:45 "Computer vision for maritime applications" by Pavel Golubev (https://www.linkedin.com/in/pavel-golubev/) Pavel will talk about computer vision applications for social good (non-commercial) and business domains, which aim to help search & rescue operations, maritime archaeology and biology, leisure diving activity and offshore oil&gas and communications operations, as well as different data science technologies under the hood - 12:30 "How Can Governments Benefit from Social Artificial Intelligence?" by Hany Hossny (https://www.linkedin.com/in/hanyhossny/) As artificial intelligence revealed the potential of social media analytics, it could answer the 4 important questions: (1) what is happening, (2) why, (3) what will happen, and (4) what should we do to create a better future. This session will address a few case studies of how AI has been used to guide Australian governments towards the best course of action by monitoring social media streams. One case study will describe the "happiness meter", another one will describe "identifying terrorists" and the third will describe how to predict the protests and revolutions before happening. These case studies utilised a mix of artificial intelligence and data science methods including, big data processing, natural language processing, predictive modelling and time series analysis. We will demonstrate the road map starting by streaming raw data until we achieve the final goal. - 13:15 lunch break, served in the Smart Dubai office - 14:15 Smart Dubai section - Dubai Data Science Lab & AI Lab - AI Ethics Principal & Guideline + Tool - Dubai Pulse & Data Initiative - Dubai Pulse Report - 16:30 networking part Stay tuned for the further details!
