What we're about

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS. Welcome to Dudes, Dining, and Dives— Guys for Guys for affordable dining & socializing. We choose local eating establishments in the St. Louis metro area. Dudes usually have two events a month. Be courteous, be patient, and please order something. Also, let your tip reflect the extra-hard work our events require of the waiting staff. I want to make this a positive experience for everyone.

IMPORTANT: Please understand when you RSVP, you are honestly saying that you will show up. RSVP is the only reliable basis for an actual number of attendees. Restaurants typically schedule extra help just to accommodate our event. These dining establishments depend on our reliable patronage, and few things reflect more badly on us than empty chairs. When events are filled to capacity, a no-show could prevent someone who is on the waiting list from attending.

IMPORTANT: Dudes, Dining, and Dives is a pro-diversity, anti-racist Meetup group. Hate is not welcome.

CANCELLATIONS: If you plan to attend an event, please try to honor your commitment. If you can't, please let us know. A cancellation BEFORE the day of the event is very helpful. We appreciate your cooperation with this request.

WAITING LIST: If you RSVP after the event is filled up, you will automatically be placed on the waiting list. As we approach the date of the event, please check your status to see if you’ve been moved from the waiting list to “going” status.

WHAT TO WEAR: We select restaurants that, while affordable, are also nice. We appreciate if you dress with this in mind. Clean, casual attire is acceptable for most of the venues. But remember, you’re not going to fast food.

SOCIALIZING, NOT CRUISING, IS THE OBJECTIVE: Dudes, Dining, and Dives was established to be an alternative to the bar scene. We wanted to provide opportunities for guys to meet and hang out with other guys without it being all about sex and alcohol. (Not that we are against either of those things.) If you meet someone at an event with whom you share mutual sexual interest, wonderful! But please don't come just to hit on guys. Please respect that others are not there for that purpose.

PLEASE DON’T: Don’t be rude to waiting staff, other members, or other diners. (Keep in mind these are usually family restaurants, so keep your language family-friendly when little ears are near.) Don’t smoke at any of our events.

Thank you for joining, we look forward to seeing you at the dining events.

A Sunday Drive to Litchfield Illinois's Famous Route 66 Ariston Cafe

Who's down for a piece of American history, or pie? Just an hour from St. Louis on I 55, on the classic route 66, is the Ariston Cafe. This has an old time dinner/supper club feel with a soup and salad bar and a fantastic menu! Anything from fancy shrimp and steak, to a classic entree with traditional sides, a casual Reuben or a cheeseburger! The homemade desserts are out of this world!!! Make room for them. There are plenty of pies and cakes to choose from. Pick them all! Not surprisingly, the cafe has won several awards, including the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame and the National Register of Historic Places. There's a lot of history about the Ariston Cafe. This will be a fun day trip in the Autumn. Bring a friend along & enjoy

NOT AN EVENT--Vaccination concern

Human Rights Campaign

REGARDING VACCINATIONS:

Dear Dudes Dining and Dives members,

A number of members have expressed concern about meetup events where they are uncertain about the vaccination status of others attending. I share this concern.

We ask that you only come to events if you are vaccinated. We are not going to ask for proof, but we hope you will respect this. And I have confidence that you will respect it. A recent Human Rights Campaign survey (see link below) has indicated that 92% LGBTQ+ adults have at least one Covid-19 shot. This is encouraging.

We respect the fact that some people have medical conditions that prohibit getting the vaccine.

We want to protect not only ourselves, but each other as well. Thank you for your cooperation and your understanding.

Tim

CREOLE WITH A SPLASH OF SOUL IN THE GROVE

Creole With A Splash Of Soul

CREOLE WITH A SPLASH OF SOUL is one of the newest black-owned businesses to hit the Grove. Menu highlights include shrimp and grits, gumbo, catfish, steak and salmon, fried chicken, Cajun Pasta, sweet creole wings, mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes (Towanda!). There's both on-street and off-street parking available.

The owner of CREOLE WITH A SPLASH OF SOUL is willing to reserve the entire restaurant for our event. So PLEASE, show appreciation and respect. If you RSVP and can't go, please change your RSVP so they can have an accurate number of guests to prepare for.

Also, they are a new business and still trying to find their footing, so please be patient with the staff. And please be vaccinated if you come.
