What: Join the East Tennessee Wanderers for our 5K or 10K walk at Ijams Nature Center in South Knoxville. We will visit the Secret Pond, River Boardwalk, and Ross Marble Quarry including the Keyhole and Rock Bridge features. The 10K walkers will additionally explore the Hickory Trail Loop. This walk boasts a variety of native flora and fauna in a setting of natural beauty. Learn some of the history of marble quarrying in East Tennessee and see an old quarry up close and personal.
When: We will start the 10K walk at 9:15am and the 5K walk at 10:15am on Saturday, August 9th. (Restrooms open at 9:00am)
Where: We will meet at the Ijams Nature Center Visitors Center, 2915 Island Home Ave, Knoxville, TN. There is a $5 per/car/day parking fee. These parking passes can be purchased in advance at the ijams.org website or at the customer desk in the Visitor Center. This walk does have some moderate elevation gains, especially for the 10K. This walk is rated a 3C by the AVA, featuring well groomed natural trails but with rolling terrain. (The 5K could be rated a 2C with slightly less elevation than the 10K.)
We will have an optional lunch following the walk at either SoKno Taco Cantina, 3701 Sevierville Pike, Knoxville, TN, or 71 South, 3721 Sevier Heights Rd., starting around 12:00pm.
Registration: This is a sanctioned walk and the cost is $3.00, cash, payable to the walk leader at the start of the walk to cover sanctioning and insurance costs. Please arrive 15 minutes early for registration. Dogs are allowed on a leash. Restrooms open at 9:00am.
