What we're about

We are a walking club that promotes Fun, Fitness, and Friendship. We are affiliated with AVA: America's Walking Club, which has over 300 clubs active in the United States hosting thousands of walking, biking and swimming events each year. We are the only AVA club in east Tennessee. We exist to provide people of average athletic ability opportunities for leisurely, non-competitive walks in scenic and historic areas. We generally offer 10 km (6.2 miles) or 5 km (3.1 miles) options at each event. Come Walk with Us!

Maryville/Alcoa Greenway 5K/10K Walk, (Linda Nelson Memorial Walk), Oct 23rd

Join the East Tennessee Wanderers for a 5K and 10K walk on the Maryville/Alcoa Greenway in Alcoa, TN. This year we will be dedicating this walk in memory of our past president, Linda Nelson. This was one of Linda's favorite walks and we wanted to honor her memory by naming this the Linda Nelson Memorial Walk.

We will kick-off this walk with a few short stories and memories of Linda at 9:00am, immediately followed by the start of both the 5K and 10K walks. We will meet at the Quality Inn at 206 Corporate Pl, Alcoa, TN. Please park near either end of the building. This is a completely paved walk on the greenway that is generally flat as it follows along Pistol Creek.

We will have an optional lunch, outdoors, weather permitting, at the Blackhorse Pub & Brewery in Alcoa, 441 N Hall Rd, Alcoa, TN starting at about 12:00pm, following the completion of our walks.

This is a sanctioned AVA event, but the East Tennessee Wanderers club will cover the necessary sanctioning fees for this event to encourage outside guests to participate in this Memorial dedication and kick-off.

Corn Maze Fun Walk w/ETW at Oakes Farm, Fri. Oct 29th, 1:00pm

Join the East Tennessee Wanderers as we enjoy a fun walk exploring the Corn Maze at Oakes Farm in Corryton, TN. How far we go depends on how lost we get (maybe 1 to 2 miles?). Two different adventure games can be pursued in the maze. Either scavenge for 12 checkpoints hidden in the maze or solve a Farm Scene Investigation involving a missing farmer Joe to find out Who Dunit. (They do allow early exit from the maze for those who need to take a break.)

After some corn maze craziness we will enjoy some of the many concessions, animals, games and pumpkin patch fun. This could be a great outing for Grandchildren to enjoy or just an excuse to enjoy the Fall season with friends. Plenty of seating is available, but bring an extra lawn chair, just in case it is needed.

Tickets are available at the gate for $15.95 (weekday price) for everyone 3 and up. Children under 3 are free. You can purchase tickets on-line and save $2.00 each at oakesfarm.com.

We are going to meet at the corn maze on Oakes Farm, 8240 Corryton Road, Corryton, TN Friday, October 29th, at 1:00pm. The maze should last about an hour to an hour and a half. We will then plan to enjoy the other attractions and food at our leisure.
